Hence, a new discipline &#8211; &#8220;Information Management&#8221; was born.\n<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6 text-center\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusoft.files.wordpress.com\/2023\/01\/1d0c1048.jpg\">\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<br><br>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6\">\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mcusoft.files.wordpress.com\/2022\/12\/dsc_2704.jpg\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6\">\n<h4 class=\"bg-warning text-white text-center\">The History of Our Department<\/h4>\n<br>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight:normal\">\n\nThe predecessor of this institution, Ming Chuan [Commercial Junior] College [for Women], took the lead in establishing the Department of Computing, becoming a pioneer in cultivating computer professionals in Taiwan.<br><br>\n\n In 1979, the institution was upgraded as the Ming Chuan College [of Management], and our department was renamed the Department of Information Management. In 1986, our department established a master&#8217;s program.<br><br>\n\nOur department has been educating students to work in Taiwan\u2019s industry for more than 50 years, and has become an important force in the progress of Taiwan\u2019s information technology in the business domain.\n\n<\/h5>\n<br><br>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n<br><br>\n<div class=\"row\">\n\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6\">\n<h4 class=\"bg-warning text-white text-center\">Founding Department Chair \u2013 Dr. K. L. Fan<br>Father of Chinese Computing<\/h4>\n<br>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight:normal\">\nDr. K. L. Fan was previously the director of the Computer Center at St. Mark&#8217;s College in the United States. In 1969, he was invited by Taiwan\u2019s Ministry of Education to return and establish the Department of Computing at Ming Chuan Business School.  <br><br>\n\nAt that time, computers were still unfamiliar in Chinese-speaking regions. He authored the first Chinese-language computer textbook and coined the translation of &#8220;Electronic Computer&#8221; as &#8220;\u96fb\u8166&#8221; (di\u00e0nn\u01ceo). Since then, &#8220;\u96fb\u8166&#8221; has become the standard term for computers across Greater China, unlike &#8220;software,&#8221; which has diverged into &#8220;\u8edf\u9ad4&#8221; (Taiwan) and &#8220;\u8edf\u4ef6&#8221; (Mainland China).<br><br>\n\nDespite his technological background, Dr. Fan also ventured into the humanities. In 1983, he initiated the &#8220;New Classical Poetry&#8221; movement. Later, he combined poetry with oil painting, creating &#8220;Poemism,&#8221; and integrated poetry into management studies, founding &#8220;Poetic Management.&#8221; <br><br>\n\nDr. Fan was not only a guiding light for Ming Chuan\u2019s Information Management program but also a shining star in the Chinese-speaking world.\n\n<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6 text-center\">\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"rounded img-thumbnail\" style=\"width:90%\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mcuhm.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-2.png?ssl=1\">\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<br><br>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6\">\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"width:100%\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/mcuhm.wordpress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/image-1.png?ssl=1\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-12 col-md-6\">\n<h4 class=\"bg-warning text-white text-center\">Second Department Chair \u2013 Dr. K. T. Huang<br>a Pioneer in Chinese Character Encoding<\/h4>\n<br>\n<h5 style=\"font-weight:normal\">\nDuring the early days of computing, Chinese input methods became a major bottleneck in digitalization. The second department chair, Dr. K. T. Huang, collaborated with two other scholars to study the structure of Chinese characters and co-invent the &#8220;Triangle Input Method.&#8221; <br><br>\n\nIn 1979, Japan aimed to establish Japanese Kanji as the international standard for Chinese character encoding.
